Our first tournament was held on Sunday, May 21, 2017 and raised over $20,000 for Band of Parents, a non-profit organization with the goal of funding new therapies at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for Neuroblastoma, the most common cancer in children under 2 years of age.
Charity Chess Championship, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation inspired by 9-year old Daniel Mero as a way to combine his passion for chess with his desire to help others. The organization was formed for the charitable purpose of raising money by holding an annual chess tournament as well as other charitable events and donating all of the net profits to a charitable organization.
We take no pay for our work to maximize the value of your donation. Players of all skill levels, regardless of financial conditions, will be able to participate in our tournament.
Chess is one of the oldest games in the world and has a meaningful positive impact on students. It teaches many skills that are not only useful in school, but throughout one's life. Children of different ages, backgrounds, and special needs can all take part in a game of chess. Chess helps develop analytical and logic skills and enriches social skills and self-esteem. We reserve spots for youths/families undergoing financial hardship. Please contact us prior to the event date at championship@charitychess.org.
